In the waterfront city of Kenosha, Wisconsin, one couple is providing the local community with access to fresh, home-cooked vegan meals.
Kenosha News reports that former restaurateurs Dama and Lamar Foster plant-based meals to more than a dozen clients through their vegan meal delivery service, Sol D’Licious Kitchen. Some clients, such as 73-year-old Cheryl Argiewicz, have health issues that make going grocery shopping and cooking a challenge. The Fosters see to it that every Sunday, she has healthy vegan meals to get her through the week.
“You only get one body,” Dama said. “You should take care of your insides like you do your outside appearance.”
Sol D’Licious Kitchen specializes primarily in American cuisine, offering vegan sloppy joes, gluten and dairy-free fettuccine alfredo, pizzas, creamy butternut squash soup, roasted vegetable bowls, and juice cleanses.
In addition to serving customers like Argiewicz who is unable to cook dinner for herself, the Fosters serve a wide variety of individuals. One client, a vegan who has been ordering from them for over three years, appreciates the convenience of a healthy, homemade plant-based meal. Others are veg-curious individuals who are familiarizing themselves with vegan cuisine. Some are looking to lose weight while others are battling serious health issues, like cancer.
“It makes us feel great to see people live and be healthy, and not be in pain. Especially if that pain is something preventable,” Lamar said. “If you are mindful of your body, you will have a better outcome. If you are not healthy, you can’t do anything.”
The Fosters believe in living their motto, “Consciously Connecting Mind, Body & Sol” by empowering the community to make healthier choices. Through their site, they offer a “7-day vegan challenge” which teaches individuals how to substitute vegan ingredients for animal-based foods. Sol D’Licious Kitchen also offers hands-on cooking classes so curious individuals can learn to cook plant-based at home as well as talks that highlight the health benefits of a vegan diet.
