Shopping vegan at Walmart is getting even easier. The world’s largest retailer is adding two new products to its extensive options: Beyond Meat’s plant-based burger value pack and Italian sausages.
The Cookout Classic value-pack includes 10 quarter-pound burger patties, which retails for $15.98.
There are a couple of differences to note between the Cookout Classic and the standard Beyond Burger. The former is made from pea and rice protein while the latter includes pea, rice, and mung bean protein. Beyond Meat originally launched the Cookout Classic as a limited-time release at various retailers last summer. The company is now introducing it as part of its permanent product range. It is now available at approximately 500 stores, according to a press release.
The Beyond Sausage Hot Italian is a plant-based pork sausage designed to sizzle like conventional pork sausage. The skin even “snaps” when you bite into it. It’s now available in more than 400 stores.
Walmart has been at the center of several controversies, ranging from underpaying employees (It recently pledged to increase hourly pay to an average of more than $15 an hour.) to gender discrimination and its negative impact on small businesses.
However, with approximately 4,756 stores throughout the U.S., a Walmart store is said to be within 10 miles of 90 percent of Americans. So, it is accessible to most shoppers. Additionally, prices are often lower at Walmart compared to supermarkets—including for plant-based products.
Beyond Meat first launched products in Walmart in 2015. The two products join the retailer’s existing offering of Beyond Meat products: the Beyond Burger, Beyond Breakfast Sausage Patties, and Beyond Brat Original.
In addition to Beyond Meat, Walmart offers vegan meat, milk, eggs, ice cream, and more from a wide range of brands. These include MorningStar Farms, Field Roast, So Delicious, Silk, and Eat Just. Check out our guide to shopping vegan at Walmart for more options.
