An organization called Plant-Based Party for the Planet is throwing a virtual party this weekend, May 1-3, to help provide plant-based meals to people working on the frontline during the coronavirus pandemic. And you’re invited!

The group aims to donate up to 100,000 meals to food banks and frontline workers. The initiative is also working to raise $30,000 for Support and Feed. Support and Feed is an organization that delivers plant-based meals to vulnerable communities.

Plant-Based Party for the Planet is a coalition of plant-based restaurants, which include Veggie Grill, Native Foods, HipCityVeg, Urban Vegan Kitchen, Sage Vegan Bistro, Plant Power Fast Food, and LIVEKINDLY.

Now more than ever, we are one global community working together for the health of humanity and for the planet we share,” Plant-Based Party said on its website.

“So, let’s kick off a Plant-Based Party for the Planet! From May 1-3, we’re inviting everyone—vegans, vegetarians, flexitarians, omnivores, carnivores—to order a 100% plant-based meal from a restaurant and post a photo on social media with the hashtag #PlantBasedParty,” it added.

For each #PlantBasedParty mention made on social media, Beyond Meat will donate one meal to an organization in need. Food delivery service DoorDash will donate $5 for every #PlantBasedParty hashtag to Support and Feed.

Support And Feed

Support and Feed is an organization that supplies plant-based meals to first responders, hospitals, senior centers, and homeless shelters across Los Angeles and New York City amid the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Maggie Baird—mom to vegan Grammy Award-winning singer Billie Eilish and her music producer brother Finneas Baird—founded the initiative. Her goal was to help vulnerable communities and keep local vegan restaurants afloat during the pandemic.

Support and Feed allows those living in Los Angeles and New York City to support their favorite vegan businesses. Many restaurants have been forced to close their dining areas. Due to lockdown measures, restaurants are not permitted to serve food, unless it is through delivery or takeout services.

There are currently more than 22,400 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Los Angeles County. More than 1,050 people have died. In New York City, there are more than 167,000 confirmed cases, including more than 12,900 deaths.
