UK-based vegan supermarket GreenBay has launched its very own plant-based steak.
Since opening its doors in 2016, GreenBay has worked to provide a place where people can shop with ease, knowing that every item on its shelves is plant-based and cruelty-free. From vegan meats to dairy-free cheeses, cruelty-free cosmetics and cleaning supplies, the store offers everything you’d expect to find in a conventional supermarket. Following increased customer demand, a year after opening, it launched online and now delivers across the United Kingdom and Northern Europe.
Now, the business is releasing its very own range of plant-based meats under its new brand, Harmless Foods. Easy to cook, satisfying, and delicious, Harmless Foods is the “new generation” of vegan meats, according to a press release.
Its vegan meats replicate animal-derived meat, yet allows customers to spare the lives of animals, help the planet, and improve their personal health – all without compromising on taste.
Harmless Foods’ first product is a Plant-Based Sliced Steak that looks, cooks, and tastes like meat, “just kinder.” With a long shelf life of one year from manufacture, the product is made with soy beans and spices and is “unlike anything else from the Plant Kingdom.” The steak is also gluten-free, making it light and easy to digest, and contains more than 15 grams of protein and 30 grams of fibre. And since it contains no animal products, it is naturally free from cholesterol.
Like GreenBay supermarket, the new Plant-Based Sliced Steak was made with vegans and non-vegans in mind. Paula Alcalde, co-founder and managing director of GreenBay, told LIVEKINDLY, “Our mission as a business has always been to encourage people to adopt a kinder lifestyle by providing an easy and convenient way to shop.” Speaking about the latest product launch, she explained that the main target audience is non-vegans; “We believe this is where we can make a positive impact and encourage change!”
The steak is for anyone looking for a realistic, good-tasting alternative to meat, including those wanting to cut back on meat consumption, the veg-curious, and vegans who “want to enjoy the same textures and flavours they grew up with, without compromising their values and beliefs,” she said.
Alcalde tested the steak on many meat-eating individuals, and the feedback has been “extremely positive.”
You can purchase Harmless Foods’ Plant-Based Sliced Steak for £3.99 at GreenBay supermarket, or online.
