Longtime vegan Miley Cyrus recently had the privilege of answering interview questions in a room full of puppies. The star was surprised by BuzzFeed with the pups before she answered questions about her new album and the animals she has at home.
Aside from all the nibbling, nearly pulling off Cyrus’ shirt and one pup who took a particular like to Miley, there was also an important message: adopt don’t shop.
The pups are from North Shore Animal League America, and are all up for adoption, well maybe not all of them now Miley has met them. The adorable tikes which Miley named Angel, Turnt and Hectic, are all in need of good homes after being rescued.
Miley doesn’t use these exact words in her interview, but the Adopt, Don’t Shop campaign is intended to encourage people to give homes to the huge number of animals a year that are abandoned or neglected by their owners. ‘Shopping’ for pets can often mean supporting breeders who don’t take good care of their animals, and just use them to make money.
Additionally, inbreeding, which often occurs in order to obtain ‘desirable characteristics’ in puppies can cause a number of health problems in certain breeds.
Having an animal companion at home is a dream for a lot of people, and there are plenty of animals that need homes, not just the pups Miley got to hang with.
