A new vegan takeaway stall is coming to the Surrey Street Market in Croydon on Saturday the 3rd of March. The Vegan Grill operates with the intention to be “a solid presence in Croydon, cooking up vegan fast food to show the masses how easy and tasty cruelty-free can be.” The vendor is currently serving up hearty plant-based lunches, but could soon expand into breakfast foods, too.
The Vegan Grill will be serving up plant-based burgers, hot dogs, cheesy chips, toasties, and cakes – comfort food classics that appeal to not only vegans but market-goers with a variety of lifestyles. Or, as the founders call it “proper naughty food, served with a friendly smile”.
This new vegan fast food stall is the first of it’s kind to hit the famous Surrey Street markets. These markets are historic — one of the oldest in Britain, which has been trading since 1276. Operating seven days a week, a range of items are found there – including fresh fruit and vegetables, local produce, and alternative artisan Sunday markets.
“Surrey Street has a great atmosphere and is bursting with independent traders, street food, homemade and artisan produce, arts and crafts,” according to the Croydon Council. “The market has recently been refurbished to help create a vibrant, pedestrian friendly zone, making it a great destination for shopping and relaxing in the heart of Croydon.”
It’s no secret that veganism is booming in the UK. An all-you-can-eat vegan hummus festival is being held on the first of March in Manchester, Bidford unveiled their latest vegan range for summer, and one of the nation’s favorite television stars adopted a vegan diet not long ago. Additionally, a new study also showed the UK could save €7.54 billion by eating more vegan food. Considering 30% of Brits intend to give up milk and cheese this year – the prospect of a more vegan nation is becoming very likely.
In particular, London seems to be the place for vegans at the moment. Earlier this week LIVEKINDLY reported a vegan-friendly Harry Potter brunch is coming to the city – coincidentally, this magical brunch will also be held on March the 3rd.
