Vegan fashion designer Stella McCartney has launched her latest collection with American activewear brand Adidas for the fall/winter season.
Luxury fashion platform WT VOX reports that the new ADIDAS BY STELLA MCCARTNEY collection emphasizes innovation, sustainable fashion, and the need to protect animals and the environment. As with McCartney’s previous collaborations with Adidas, the new collection features eco-friendly fabrics made from recycled materials including organic cotton, recycled polyester, ocean plastic, and Econyl yarn, a material made from upcycled nylon.
“As the brand at the pinnacle of female sports performance and style, we have a responsibility to provide women with a choice that allows them to be part of a solution through our sustainable pieces and practices,” said McCartney in a statement. “More than half of our apparel and a third of our footwear in FW18 are made with eco-innovative and recycled materials, such as Parley’s Ocean Plastic. It’s time to be the difference we want to see. To act now and to mean more in all we do”
The fall/winter 2018 collection features a wide range of both sustainable running shoes and eco-friendly activewear designed to “empower female athletes” who seek to exercise outdoors despite the cold weather. The clothing utilizes Adidas Climaheat technology in order to do so, which was specially engineered to help keep athletes warm. Many of the designs feature animal print motifs, inspired by McCartney’s love of animals and nature.
Chinese international supermodel Ming Xi, who shares McCartney’s love of the planet, was chosen as the face of the new global campaign. ‘The way Adidas and Stella McCartney come together in their collaboration is unrivaled,” she said. “I am really inspired by the brand’s ambition to make a difference and its devotion to sustainability, which I can’t wait to get involved in. Of course, working out is a big part of my world and my life as a fashion model. I feel very blessed to be part of this next chapter!”
McCartney is renowned for both her passion for protecting the environment and her compassion towards animals. Last July, the English fashion designer’s brand was ranked first in empathy, generosity, and kindness by the New York-based Luxury Institute’s “Emotionally Intelligent Brand Index.” On World Oceans Day last June, McCartney participated in an ocean clean-up, with all plastic collected being recycled into ADIDAS BY STELLA MCCARTNEY products. Last May, supermodel Karlie Kloss was chosen as the face for the spring/summer collaboration, which featured the same sustainable fabrics as the new collection.
