Frozen dessert chain 16 Handles has launched a new vegan menu featuring cashew-based soft-serve and egg-free cookie dough.
According to Brit + Co, the brand partnered with New York-based sweep shop DŌ Cookie Dough Confection to create the new limited-edition plant-based dessert. Cookie Dough Craving, a cookie-flavored cashew soft-serve, is the first of new vegan options, which pairs perfectly with 16 Handles’ second new offering, Chocolate Cookie Dough topping.
“Our new vegan flavor is now available!” the brand posted on its Instagram account last month. “Pair our new vegan Cookie Dough Craving soft-serve with our new Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough by [DŌ Cookie Dough Confection]. It’s the cookie dough combo dreams were made of.”
The new products join 16 Handles growing vegan menu, which includes a variety of creative, tasty treats, like Chocolate Hazelnut Truffle soft-serve, Dannon Passion Fruit Orange Guava Sorbet, and Welch’s Superfruit Mighty Concord Grape frozen dairy-free yogurt.
Introducing creative flavors is important to the brand, which states on its website that it is “committed to innovation.” It notes, “From new flavors to chef-inspired toppings, to technology that rewards loyalty – 16 Handles is leading the hands-on revolution that Fro-Yo fanatics love.”
With its new vegan soft-serve flavors, 16 Handles joins the growing market for plant-based dairy-free ice cream. According to a report from last year, the industry is on track to exceed a market value of $1 billion by 2024.
The growth of the market is propelled by consumer demand, as more people learn about the health, environmental, and ethical consequences of consuming dairy. It’s also driven by key market players listening to this demand and launching new dairy-free flavors, including established brands like Magnum.
Earlier this year, Ben & Jerry’s added two new vegan flavors to its offerings. Like 16 Handles, it opted to make a nondairy version of its popular cookie dough ice cream. Häagen-Dazs has also recently launched a new plant-based product, boozy Amaretto Black Cherry Toffee, bringing its dairy-free products to a total of nine.
Major ice cream brands Magnum, Cornetto, and Solero have also recently launched new frozen dessert options in a bid to cater to demand.
