In a new Easter-themed, blind taste-test that sampled 142 treats, the Good Housekeeping Institute voted Booja Booja’s hazelnut crunch chocolate truffles the “best Easter egg” of 2018. These truffles aren’t only vegan-friendly but eye-catching as they come in a reusable hand-painted, egg-shaped tin.
Booja Booja is an artisan chocolate company, based in Norfolk. Everything made by the company is organic, dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan-friendly, and soya-free. This makes their range of chocolates and ice cream appealing to consumers with allergies and those who follow various lifestyle choices.
Eight separate categories of shortlisted chocolatey treats were blind taste-tested. A panel of judges then scored these on taste, texture, aroma, and appearance. The vegan hazelnut crunch chocolate truffles were a hit with the critics; they scored an impressive 89/100, accredited to their ‘smooth truffle filling’.
It has been said that veganism is becoming mainstream. Vegan food sales are soaring in supermarkets, as more consumers than ever are adopting plant-based diets. But those avoiding animal products certainly don’t have to miss out on their favourite treats. As well as Booja Booja’s vegan Easter line, UK supermarket giant ASDA recently debuted their first ever vegan and gluten-free hot cross buns, just in time for the holiday.
Chocolatier Booja Booja describes their tasty truffles as “[m]elt in your mouth chocolate truffles with sweet, roasted Italian hazelnuts”. Consumers can get their very own box (or a few) of UK’s tastiest Easter treat, of which have won 19 awards thus far, for £24.95.
“It’s clear that traditional retailers are having to do more and more to ensure consumers’ ever-evolving taste buds are satisfied,” says the consumer director at Good Housekeeping, Caroline Bloor. “Seeing a vegan-friendly egg take the crown may come as a surprise to some, but this is why our famous blind tests are more important now than ever before.”
Lindt and Tesco followed closely behind Booja Booja, with Tesco’s Finest dark chocolate Belgian egg merely two points behind and Lindt’s 1 kg classic gold bunny given a score of 84/100.
