Papa John’s just got more meatless options. The popular pizza chain is launching vegan cheese stuffed crust pizza in the UK.
In addition to the ooey-gooey, vegan cheese stuffed crust pizza, Brits will also be able to bite into Papa John’s UK’s two other new plant-based menu items: Not-Chicken Vegan Bites and The Alice Tai pizza.
The vegetable protein-based meat features a crispy breadcrumb coating. Papa John’s created the limited-edition vegan pizza created in collaboration with Paralympic Gold medalist swimmer Alice Tai. The vegan pizza’s launch coincides with Veganuary. It features vegan sausage, chestnut mushrooms, onions, fresh tomatoes, and black olives.
The chickenless bites and limited-edition vegan pizza are currently on the menu. The vegan cheese stuffed pizza will be available from January 18.
This isn’t the first vegan offering to land on Papa John’s UK’s menu.
It launched its first vegan menu item at the start of 2019 with the launch of pizzas topped with Sheese—a dairy-free cheese made from coconut oil. The dairy-free cheese sold out almost immediately.
The chain now carries a number of other vegan pizza options. In early 2020, Pizza Hut UK launched four new vegan pizzas. These included the Jackfruit Pepperoni, American Hot Jackfruit, Sausage and Pepperoni, and the Vegan Works. The pizza giant also carries vegan options of Cheese & Tomato, Garden Party, Chilli Freak, and The Stinger. The latter features chili sauce, vegan cheese, jackfruit “pepperoni,” and fresh red chili.
In addition to its new chickenless bites, Papa John’s UK’s plant-based sides include potato tots with vegan cheese, vegan cheese and marmite scrolls, potato tots with vegan cheese and jalapenos.
Expanding its vegan offerings has been a major goal of the pizza chain. In October 2019, it announced it would looking to hire a chief vegan officer. Papa John’s UK later hired Clare Every, who runs the Instagram account The Little London Vegan to fill the role.
“Over the next six months, I’ll be helping the team develop their vegan products and expand their plant-based offering,” she said in a statement on Instagram. “I’ll be the eyes and ears for the company, keeping them up to date with all of the latest trends and developments from the vegan world.”
