California-based vegan and cruelty-free beauty brand NCLA has teamed up with Mattel to launch a new nineties-themed collection inspired by the iconic doll, Barbie.
Barbie began her life in 1959, and – despite criticism for her “unnatural” body shape – she has remained popular with every generation since.
NCLA’s range – which features the silhouette of Barbie’s profile with her classic high ponytail – intends to be a celebration of the doll and the nostalgic place she holds in many Millennial’s hearts.
“The NCLA x Barbie Collection is everything you’ve ever dreamed of! Nostalgic of the 90’s, this collection pays ode to your favorite icon,” states NCLA. “From the prints, to the packaging, to the names, this collection will have you feeling totally Barbie!”
The new range includes products that were all the rage in the nineties, such as nail adhesives and pink jelly balms, as well as semi-matte lipsticks and even vitamin E-infused cuticle oil, scented with bubblegum. Items also feature authentic Barbie names, like Barbie Beach Cruiser, Ballerina Barbie, Barbie Dream, and Barbie Convertible.
“Each of the items is beyond adorable,” commented Teen Vogue. “[They’re] perfect for hanging out in your Dreamhouse, riding around in a pink convertible, or pursuing a career as a veterinarian/business executive/astronaut/rock star.”
Launched in 2008 by Belgium-born Elin Dannerstedt and Anh-Thu Dannerstedt, NCLA’s products are fun, unique, high-quality, and contain no animal products whatsoever. As well as Barbie, the award-winning brand has worked with Hello Kitty, Guess, Sivan Ayla, and even Beyoncé.
Ultimately, the beauty brand is all about empowering everyone, without hurting any living creature in the process.
“From bottling up a bit of LA in every product, to its vegan and cruelty-free standards, everyone can feel like an LA girl,” notes Anh-Thu on the brand’s website. “We want every customer to feel beautiful and feel like a better version of themselves.”
“I’m surrounded daily by some of the strongest women I know, who understand the importance of uplifting each other and who continue to push the boundaries in our industry,” she continues. “We set out to make NCLA a destination for innovative, fun, and high quality beauty.”
