Usher Goes Plant-Based to Boost Immune System

Usher has adopted a plant-based lifestyle for his health.

During a live performance streamed on Twitter, the singer spoke about his new partnership with a vegan chef, why he has started his plant-based journey, and why he wants others to do the same.

“It’s very important to know that a healthy option is plant-based,” said Usher during the performance, which was streamed on Verizon’s Twitter account for their Pay it Forward Live series.

He added: “I’ve actually started that journey myself.”

The singer has support from friend and rapper Jermaine Dupri, who was also involved in the performance.

“JD is also a great supporter of plant-based, as well as the vegan lifestyle,” Usher continued. “Definitely want to encourage you guys to understand in these times that boosting your health and the immune system is also too what you eat, not just staying inside.”

‘Veganaire Coming Soon’

The singer also spoke about Veganaire, his new business with Chef Shay, a vegan chef from his mother’s culinary incubator scheme J’s Kitchen Culinary Incubator.

Currently, there is little information available about Veganaire. A recent post on the brand’s Instagram account reads: “the chef is ready, Veganaire coming soon.”

Usher revealed that the Veganaire team has been busy delivering vegan meals to people in need during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“Veganaire, ladies and gentleman, is our brand,” he said. “We prepared 2,000 meals for Clayton County, we’re really happy to have been able to do it.”

Veganaire’s healthy family-friendly meals are hearty, comforting, and filling. While he was talking, Usher showed a behind the scenes video of Veganaire, revealing fresh produce and products from vegan meat brands like Tofurky and Beyond Meat.

“The cool thing about it is, kids love what they love,” he said. “They love lasagna, they love meatballs, and even some of the parents do love meatloaf. I wanted to create something that I thought would be nourishing, but also a filling, hearty meal. So that’s what we put together.”

Via video chat, Chef Shay explained that “Veganaire was created to provide plant-based, comfort foods” for people who are transitioning to a vegan diet, but also those who are curious about adopting a healthier lifestyle.

She added that the plan is for Veganaire to eventually go global, “like McDonald’s.”
