UK low-calorie alcoholic beverage company, Skinny Brands, has launched a new, vegan-friendly, gluten-free beer named Skinny Lager.
The new 4% ABV lager, which contains only 89 calories in each 330ml bottle, is made in a brewing process that removes all residual sugars from the beer.
Skinny Lager was developed in a bid to keep up with the demand for low-calorie alcohol. Skinny Brands is confident its new lager will be a huge hit with customers. “Our new, full-flavour Skinny Lager appeals to a wide variety of consumers looking to drink differently,” Allan Moffat, marketing manager for the company, said in a statement. He added, “We have big plans for the brand this year with a comprehensive sampling and events programme which kicks off with an international Barbarians Rugby match on the 24th March.”
“We’ve set an ambitious target to sample over one million bottles with consumers this year at various events – and we’re confident that everyone who tries Skinny Lager will love it!”
Veganism is gathering steam in the UK, with demand for new food and drink products free from animal ingredients, constantly rising; and alcohol is no exception. A vegan version of Baileys recently launched in Asda and Waitrose — the creamy cruelty-version of the drink includes almond milk instead of dairy. “Baileys Almande is dairy-free and vegan-friendly, but very much not free from naughty, delicious indulgence,” said Waitrose. “All the deliciousness of Baileys without the dairy!”
Popular British supermarket, The Co-op, is also in tune with the public desire for vegan alcoholic beverages. The company has promised to launch one hundred new vegan wines by the end of 2018. “We are anticipating vegan wines to pick up momentum throughout 2018, so our range will be expanding throughout the year and we will continue to challenge suppliers to make wines vegan where they can,” category trading manager for Co-op wines, Simon Cairns, stated.
Available to purchase from major UK supermarkets Tesco and Asda, and online at Morrisons, the new vegan Skinny Lager will be sold in packs of four, ten, and twelve throughout the UK.
