If the body didn’t do this on a daily basis, you’d be dead. Plain and simple. Not that this is an excuse to eat shitty food, mind you!!!
No purchased cleanses, teas, pills, etc. are going to detox your body, however you can assist the natural process by eating a healthy diet full of fruit and vegetables, as well as limiting your alcohol consumption, and staying hydrated (as drinking plenty of water helps the kidneys flush out waste).
A healthy body excretes ordinary toxins easily, especially when it is getting optimal amounts of fibre.
Fibre?!
Yes! The liver LOVES fibre! Bet you didn’t know that!
See, some of the final by-products of the body’s natural detoxification process are heavy metals (mostly from the environment). These heavy metals bind to fibre and are escorted out of the body via the excretory system. Pretty neat, eh? Whole grains anyone? Head-o-bok-choy?! Yes please! I’ll take two!
The best thing you can do for your liver and the rest of your digestive system is eat well, hydrate, and exercise (it aids the digestive AND immune systems). Make it a habit, and your body will do its job, keeping your insides clean. So don’t buy into fads, these quick fixes & marketing schemes. Change your diet, get off your butt, and down some good ol’ H20. Treat yourself, sure … but use your common sense.
If you need help, fire me an email! I’d love to help you jump on that road to wellness. It starts with YOU.
I will leave you with my favourite quote:
“Eat <real> Food, Not Too Much, Mostly Plants” – Michael Pollan. Word.
