Last Monday’s Met Gala saw many firsts. Harry Styles graced the pink carpet in an unexpected — yet perfectly on the theme — sheer frilled Gucci blouse; Katy Perry appeared as a vegan burger, and Lady Gaga iconically managed to pull off what’s being called one of the greatest entrances of all time. She revealed four different ensembles, each flawlessly encompassing the “Camp: Notes on Fashion” theme.
What many may not have noticed among all the glitter and theatre of it all, is that one very important debut happened — on Miley Cyrus’ feet.
Along with a sparkly angular Saint Laurent dress, Cyrus wore the brand’s first ever pair of vegan shoes to the event, according to Vogue. The magazine commented on the musician’s look, “Cyrus provided a moment for the history books while looking chic at an event she admits is her favorite.”
French fashion house Saint Laurent used to be known as Yves Saint Laurent, or YSL, and is still referred to as such today.
The singer — who attended the ball for the first time with her actor husband Liam Hemsworth — wore a vegan pair of the brand’s towering Paige high platform sandals (the original design of which uses leather and suede).
“[The Met] is like a reunion of all your friends and it starts feeling like a family,” Cyrus told Vogue. “I’ve always been here solo so I wore higher heels because I have someone to hold me this time.”
Saint Laurent’s creative director Anthony Vaccarello designed all of Cyrus’ outfit. “They do camp in a fierce, punk, kind of way — I think right now Saint Laurent is what makes me feel most myself,” said the singer.
Cyrus is a regular attendee of the Met Gala, which is held annually as a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in New York City.
This isn’t the first time the musician has rocked a vegan look at the event; last year, she arrived with ethical designer Stella McCartney, wearing a low cut backless silk satin gown.
She told Vogue at the time, “I’m here, so excited to be a part of this because I think this moment can be about so many different things and for me, I want to bring a message, which is veganism and that there doesn’t have to be torture in fabulous fashion.”
