What is going on internally is usually reflected externally. When a person eats well, exercises, and practices natural personal hygiene, you can’t help but notice that they have “that glow”.
Would you like to hop on that train? Of course you would! Hop aboard, and enjoy the ride …
See my (post run) face? G is for Glow.-->
DIGESTIVE HEALTH
This is my number one! When your digestive system is in disarray, your skin will appear dull, lightless, and you may have dark circles under your eyes.
When I’m having tummy trouble, you can see it on my face. How do I remedy this? First, I look at my diet: Did I eat as well as I could have this week? and then adjust accordingly. Fibre fibre fibre! Then, I pop a high quality probiotic with my next meal, maybe some homemade kombucha and BAM, back on track. I always keep probiotics in the fridge. Just in case! #pooptastic
HYDRATION
I make a point to drink at least 2-3L of water daily. Keeping yourself sufficiently hydrated helps keep your skin clear, and prevents it from drying out. Staying hydrated can also help prevent urinary tract infections, kidney stones, headaches and slow digestion. My new hydration kick is as follows: brew 2-3L of hot water per day, and steep your favourite herbal teas. Cool to room temperature in 1L mason jars, then refrigerate. Never a dull drop.
Get your sweat on! It’s a great way to clean out your pores, circulate lymph (immune support) as well as promote healthy digestion (by getting things moving). Slow digestion is the breeding ground for inflammation, and inflammation is the root of many diseases.
VITAMIN D
Very important! Did you know Vitamin D is imperative for the production of collagen? You can get Vitamin D from the sun, fortified foods, and supplements. Those who live in areas of the world with less sun exposure (oh, hey Vancouver!) have lower than optimal levels of Vitamin D, therefore it’s highly recommended that EVERYONE is diligent about monitoring their intake to ensure they are not deficient.
MOISTURIZE
With Castor Oil at night, and a high potency Vitamin E day cream. I use Jason Vitamin E Age Renewal, as it has 25,000 IU of Vitamin E. Castor oil is very thick, so I recommend putting a towel under your head to save your pillow cases!
WASH (and scrub) YO FACE
Easy. Diluted Dr. Bronner’s Castille Soap. One third of Dr. B’s and water in a foam-pump. I actually use this ratio all over my body; it’s my ONLY soap. I buy the natural scent, and then add a few drops of scented essential oil as I see fit.
Eye-makeup remover? CASTOR OIL once again.
Sea Salt Face Scrub? Heck Yes. A few years ago, I jarred and labeled my home-made scrub for friends and family and labeled it “I Like It Rough”. I thought it was pretty clever.
Ingredients?
Sea salt | Citrus juice | Oil
(coconut, grapeseed, jojoba) in the following increments:
1 cup sea salt, processed to a fine powder
1/4 cup oil
2 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice
process
Do your best to implement these 6 easy steps into your daily routine and combine with a predominantly whole foods, plant based diet for best results.
