Pret’s WonderFall menu is back in all 84 U.S stores and this year it includes a glorious vegan balance box, a vegan bisque and their signature barista developed seasonal drinks. The Falafel & Turmeric Cauliflower Balance Box consists of falafel, roasted cauliflower, dijon brussels sprouts, beet hummus, and a brown rice, red quinoa and chickpea grain mix, served over fresh spinach and paired with a turmeric miso ginger dressing.
If you fancy something heart and warm then opt for the velvety Pumpkin Bisque with coconut milk, apple cider, sea salt and a seasonal spice blend. They also have a hot or cold apple cider and an almond turmeric latte which is vegan. Turmeric has become increasingly popular and no surprises as it packs a range of health benefits including anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties. They have a range of veggie treats too.
Founded in London in 1986, Pret A Manger prides itself on using natural, ethically sourced ingredients in food that doesn’t have a “sell-by” date instead Pret supports local food rescue organizations by donating unsold food at the end of each day. They are continuing their charitable work in New York where $1 from every City Harvest Salad from the new fall menu will be donated to their food rescue partner, City Harvest. The donations from the salad will be collected until Thanksgiving, and are expected to surpass $75,000 – enough to feed over 3,200 families in need for a month. Sadly this salad is not vegan! At least the money raised will help lots of families.
“For over 17 years, Pret and our charity, The Pret Foundation, have supported local food rescue organizations in the cities we operate in in the U.S. It makes us proud that the food we freshly prepare in our shop kitchens each day is not only enjoyed by our customers, but is donated to those that need it once our shops close in the evenings. Without partners like City Harvest, this would be very challenging for us to do,” says Jo Brett, President of Pret US.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on Pret over the coming weeks as they’re being eyed up for a takeover by a Filipino fast food outlet best known for its burgers and fried chicken. The bid is expected to value Pret at over $1 billion. The question is would you still want to get lunch there if it goes ahead?
