Trader Joe’s has at least one more vegan option. The grocery chain just launched vegan bon bons—and we can’t wait to try them!
Traditionally, bon bons are not frozen and are typically filled with a chocolate ganache, fruit purée, caramel, or other creams. But Trader Joe’s vegan bon bons are a unique twist on a classic treat.
The Non Dairy Mint & Chip Bon Bons are a frozen dessert that features a coconut milk base. The seasonal dairy-free treats are infused with fresh mint and studded with chocolate chips all wrapped in a chocolate shell.
According to the company, the chocolate coating is made from only three ingredients: coconut oil, cocoa powder, and cocoa butter.
The delicious-looking treat joins Trader Joe’s growing list of vegan dessert products. One of its more recent launches—vegan milk chocolate bars—debuted this month.
The grocery chain announced the launch of the product in February. It revealed the new item on an episode of its podcast, Inside Trader Joe’s. The show featured a discussion between Trader Joe’s marketing director, Tara Miller, and category manager, Alison Nadler Guerette. “Our customers are asking for vegan items,” the latter said.
Trader Joe’s Vegan Frozen Desserts
The company is keeping up with the growing demand for plant-based products. In addition to its new vegan bon bons, Trader Joe’s carries a number of non-dairy frozen items.
The company launched mini vegan cheesecakes over the summer. The Cheese-Less Cheesecake contains a number of plant-based ingredients like lima beans, coconut oil, agave syrup, and konjac. It features a custard-like filling atop an oat-based, crumbly crust.
Trader Joe’s also released a new Strawberry Oat Frozen Dessert. The dairy-free creamy ice cream features an oat milk base, candied strawberries, and almond brittle. Agave syrup is used as a sweetener. In May, the company released an almond-based, non-dairy vanilla ice cream.
The chain already carries a number of pints and novelty vegan ice creams, including a soy-based vanilla ice cream and a chocolate coconut frozen dessert. Its Soy Creamy Cherry Chocolate Chip features dairy-free vanilla ice cream with dark cherry and chocolate chunks.
