Del Taco just introduced two new burritos made with vegan Beyond Meat and one of them is stuffed with french fries.

High on the success of Beyond Meat, Del Taco introduced two new meat-free options to the menu today: the Beyond 8 Layer Burrito and the Epic Beyond Cali Burrito. The former contains Beyond Meat’s vegan beef crumbles, beans, guacamole, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, red sauce, and sour cream. The latter comes stuffed with the beefy crumbles, sour cream, guac, pico de gallo, and fries. Either can be made vegan by leaving out the sour cream and cheese.

‘Beyond’ Successful

The Mexican-inspired fast food chain introduced Beyond Meat’s vegan beef crumbles to all 580 locations late last April following successful trials at select locations in Southern California. Business Insider reports that the launch is one of its best-selling new products in Del Taco’s history, selling roughly two million meatless tacos in less than two months.

“Since launching 11 days ago, we are very encouraged by increases in both check and traffic, as this new product platform is bringing in many new or lapsed users and appealing to regular Del Taco guests, who are all eager to sample our Beyond Taco offerings,” CEO John Cappasola told investors last May.

Beyond Meat became the first vegan meat brand to go public earlier this year and made history with biggest first-day IPO in nearly two decades. Shares started at $25 and are currently priced at around $166. Its success has sparked interest in plant-based meat from investors and restaurant chains alike.

“While the company is facing competition from the likes of Impossible Foods, rising consumer demand should allow multiple brands to share the market,” said Bernstein analyst Alexia Howard.

Beyond Meat’s vegan meat products are available in a growing number of restaurant chains, including Carl’s Jr., A&W Canada, TGI Fridays, Bareburger, and Australian vegan fast food chain Lord of the Fries.

The demand for Beyond Meat speaks to a greater consumer trend. A recent study from John Hopkins Center for a Livable Future revealed that two-thirds of Americans are looking to eat less meat for their health.
