Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher Ditch Meat for Jackfruit Tacos and Better Health

Hollywood actor, Mila Kunis recently spoke with Today in an interview about her and husband Ashton’s diet. Kunis, certainly not known for her vegetarianism, said that:

“I’ve been on a vegetarian kick at the house because I’m trying to cut down on the amount of red meat that my husband consumes. I’m trying to make flavorful, vegetarian meals.”

Driven by a push to improve the health of her partner in crime, Mila claims that whilst not everyone is as enthusiastic about her new veg-friendly meals, she is aware that it’s important to do so if you want to avoid high cholesterol levels. And she’d be right! Studies have found that those eating plant based vegan diets had significantly decreased total cholesterol, with lower levels of HDL and LDL cholesterol (the main cause of coronary heart disease).

Mila and Ashton are not quite showing signs of going vegan (or even vegetarian for that matter) but the awareness around better health coming hand in hand with eating a plant based diet seems to be something on their minds. Avid cook, Mila, even toys with exotic new flavours to keep things exciting. She said:

“I do lots of rice cauliflower dinners,” “Fried rice cauliflower. Or, I’m a little obsessed with jackfruit. I add that to tacos — jackfruit tacos. Or jackfruit instead of pulled pork for sandwiches. That’s what I’ve been playing around with.”

So what’s the benefit? Well, in a side by side comparison of 100g of pork and 100g of jackfruit, it’s clear to see why anyone wanting to augment their health (or waistline) would do the same. If eating tacos and dropping dress sizes appeals to you, take note!

Not entirely plant based, Mila does admit that when she’s looking for comfort, she ditches the veggies:

“A Manwich — it’s underrated,” Kunis said. “It’s a wonderful meal. I love lasagna. I think Italian food to me is comfort food. I live in Los Angeles — I love Mexican. I would never try to make it. I would rather just go down the street and get some really good Mexican.”

Luckily, Mila, if you’re reading this, you can go all-out vegan with Mexican cuisine and L.A is a hotbed for delicious vegan food. As for the Lasagna and “Manwich”? We’ve got you covered – This vegan sloppy joe recipe is a must-try (Cro-Mags can do the rest)

With their recent dietary tweaks, The Kutchers might be a far cry from a eliminating meat and dairy entirely however it’s great to see that the first steps are being taken. With high profile influencers continually shining a positive light on the benefits of a plant based diet and subsequently reaping the rewards, we can only expect good things to come.
