Pam Sneed, blogger, YouTuber, Missouri resident, and grandmother to two, has a knack for decorating cookies – and the glaze she uses is vegan.
Sneed is the founder of Cookie Crazie, a blog where she shares her passion for decorating cookies. According to her blog, Sneed’s love of decorating cookies dates back to her childhood, when she would spend her time decorating Christmas cookies with her dad and sisters. In 2007, she discovered a bevy of cookie decorators on the internet who, in her words “challenged me to improve my skills.”
In 2008, Sneed launched her blog as a means to document her adventures. Her icing of choice for her cookies just so happens to be completely vegan.
The mother of five and grandmother of two uses glaze icing, which is made from powdered sugar, corn syrup, and water. Then, just add a few drops of vegan-friendly food coloring. Some in the baking community say that glaze icing is difficult to work with, but Sneed’s videos make it look so easy – and she’s always ready to share seasonal treats.
Her latest batch of tutorials shows off Christmassy sugar cookies such as stockings, candy canes, snowmen, and snowflakes. PS, she also offers online cookie decorating classes in case you’re trying to up your game.
While her basic sugar cookie recipe is not plant-based, she also has a vegan, gluten-free, and nut-free sugar cookie recipe. “I’m so happy and excited to share this recipe with you,” Sneed wrote. “[…]To know that others will take this recipe and create cookies for those who’ve been deprived in the past is a WONDERFUL thought,” Sneed wrote.
Sneed’s vegan cookie recipe keeps it simple with just seven ingredients: a gluten-free flour blend, vegan butter, unsweetened applesauce, sugar, arrowroot powder, vanilla extract, and salt. The dairy-free, egg-free sugar cookies can be rolled out, just like the traditional treat, and hold up when cut into festive shapes.
