The royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is just hours away! Although it’s tradition for the groom not to see the bride’s dress before she makes her grand entrance, a few fashionistas couldn’t help but take a peek. According to several UK media outlets and bridal designers, Markle could be walking down the aisle in a stunning vegan Stella McCartney wedding dress.
The bride-to-be is a well-known fan of this ethical fashion designer’s work, sporting a black Stella McCartney coat to an event in Cardiff last January, and a navy cape dress to Queen Elizabeth’s birthday party in April. This is when key designers began to suspect that McCartney might be behind the royal wedding dress.
British bridal gown designer, Caroline Castigliano, told Page Six, “Stella is such a perfect fit for Meghan, she uses organic fabrics and her ethos is the same as Meghan. Her style is very underplayed, her dresses are very clean in style, very much Meghan—and they are friends.”
In regards to the style of the gown, Castigliano continued, “I believe it will be a very straight, fitted dress, with a big nine-foot train that comes off the dress from the side to create the drama, and lace trickling down the top of it…I’m sure [the dress] will be very different [from] Kate Middleton’s, although it will share some of the same aspects—sleeves, shoulders covered, no cleavage showing, and it’s highly likely that she’ll have her back covered too.”
To accompany what is sure to be a gorgeous gown, Castigliano inferred that Markle will don a tiara from the late Princess Diana’s collection.
Although this news will not be confirmed until the guests stand and turn to watch Markle float down the aisle, this partnership between Markle and McCartney makes sense. Both are committed to ethical and sustainable fashion. McCartney has always committed to a completely vegetarian line, and she is constantly exploring new plant-based materials to replicate materials such as silk and wool. Markle is also committed to promoting cruelty-free fashion, acting as a strong anti-fur advocate.
The rose petal covered aisle is the ultimate red carpet. As Markle prepares to marry her prince and relatives dab away happy tears, we can’t help but wonder, “Who is she wearing?”
