Lizzo just threw a vegan viewing party for Beyoncé’s musical film and visual album “Black Is King,” which launched on Disney+ today.
The “Juice” singer’s watch party featured plant-based dishes from Munchies Diner—a vegan restaurant in Orange County, California. The dinner included mashed potatoes and gravy, greens, mac and cheese, and chicken bacon sandwiches with cheese.
“Me and my friends got COVID tested and watched ‘Black Is King’ last night,” she wrote in an Instagram Story. “It was beautiful. Thank you, Beyonce.”
Beyoncé’s “Black Is King” is a passion project, the singer wrote on Instagram, saying it was a labor of love for her—one she’s worked on for the better part of a year.
“I’ve given it my all and now it’s yours. It was originally filmed as a companion piece to ‘The Lion King: The Gift’ soundtrack and meant to celebrate the breadth and beauty of Black ancestry,” she wrote.
She explained the visual album presents “elements of Black history and African tradition, with a modern twist and a universal message.”
“I only hope that from watching, you leave feeling inspired to continue building a legacy that impacts the world in an immeasurable way. I pray that everyone sees the beauty and resilience of our people,” she said.
Lizzo took to Instagram recently to tell her 9.1 million followers that she is trying out a raw vegan diet. “So since being vegan I’ve found that I eat a lot of meat substitutes. Whether its tempeh or jackfruit or Beyond burger or whatever,” Lizzo explained.
She continued: “So, I’m going to try to be raw for a little bit to try to get a sense of pure, raw veganism. This raw vegan lifestyle…get into it!”
The singer regularly posts vegan recipes on her TikTok, which include a spicy vegan chicken sandwich, a vegan Jamaican spicy beef, and vegan “frank and beans” with onions and meatless bacon.
In June, she told her TikTok followers that being vegan is easy. “So being plant-based and vegan has been pretty easy except for when I am hungover. I used to crave cheesy eggs, so here is my substitute for cravings when you’re hungover,” she said.
