Vegan musician and activist Moby may have just confirmed Leonardo DiCaprio follows a plant-based diet.
Moby described his opportunity to have brunch with actor and environmentalist DiCaprio, and primatologist Jane Goodall. In an article on Spectator, he describes the invitation from DiCaprio as “A BIG MOMENT.”
There was a time when Moby and Leonardo DiCaprio didn’t know each other. However, as he describes in the piece, Moby became friends with the actor as a result of selling a house to his parents.
He wrote, “before selling the house to Leo’s parents, there was a brief bidding war between his family and [another outspoken vegan] Morrissey. In Los Angeles, bidding wars on houses take place between bold-face vegans.”
The trio’s conversation was as you’d expect from three passionate environmental advocates. They discussed climate change and “the need to stop the practice of using animals for food,” as well as “how much bees love rosemary flowers.”
It seems Leo is authentic to the message he tells others. Moby described the “plants for pollinators” DiCaprio has planted, as well as mentioning that the brunch consisted of vegan croissants.
Though there has been much speculation about whether DiCaprio is vegan, there’s no denying his efforts to encourage others to reconsider their choices.
The actor regularly using his platform to raise awareness of the climate crisis, as he did in his Oscars speech in 2016. When accepting the award for his role in “The Revenant,” he said “Climate change is real, it is happening now. It is the most urgent threat to our entire species.”
However, Leonardo DiCaprio’s work for the environment isn’t limited to speeches. He actively supports multiple campaigns and organizations in their fight for climate action through the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation.
The actor may also signal his vegan lifestyle through the investments he has made. Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the high-profile investors in vegan meat brand Beyond Meat, as well as the chickpea-based snack brand Hippeas.
Jane Goodall has also been outspoken about the need for more people to choose veganism. In 2017, in an article published on her website, Goodall highlighted the issue behind the consumption of meat.
As well as the damaging effects on the environment, she described the inhumane treatment of farmed animals. She also detailed the risks that aggressive tactics such as the excessive use of antibiotics pose to us.
She wrote, “[The decision to not eat meat] is the choice to change our individual lives, which will in turn have enormous benefits for all of humanity and all of the other living creatures we share our home with.“
