Katy Perry just took her love for vegan burgers to a whole new level.
The singer-songwriter recently attended the 2019 Met Gala, an annual fundraising gala for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City, where the event is held.
This year’s theme was Camp: Notes on Fashion. Perry attended the gala dressed as a chandelier, complete with more than a dozen lights. Keen to make the most of the occasion, the entertainer snuck to the Metropolitan Museum of Art bathroom to swap outfits, where she was filmed climbing into a giant hamburger costume. The look was complete with a lettuce-looking dress, burger-themed shoes, and a large stick on her head.
Perry shared an image of the creation on Instagram where she tagged plant-based meat company Impossible Foods, hinting that the meaty burger outfit was vegan. Vegan musician Miley Cyrus shared photos of Perry on her own Instagram, where she and Dua Lipa can be seen embracing and biting Perry’s burger buns. Cyrus tagged vegan meat brand Beyond Meat in the image, so while it’s not clear whether the meat-free snack was inspired by Impossible Foods or Beyond Meat, it’s evident the patty is meant to be plant-based.
Perry has celebrated meat-free burgers in the past. In 2017, during the tour of her album “Witness,” Perry shared online what was being served backstage: vegan Impossible Burgers. “Thanks for feeding us well tonight,” she wrote to the company, adding that “maybe one day” she would give up In-N-Out for her “fave vegan Impossible Foods burger.”
In 2018, Perry said that her then-boyfriend, now-fiancé Orlando Bloom, who is rumored to be vegetarian, was encouraging her to eat more plant-based food. “He’s always trying to get me to go hike, or do yoga or eat vegan,” she said to Entertainment Tonight.
Impossible Foods has won the hearts of other celebrities, too. Cyrus was seen enjoying the company’s burger last year on Independence Day and vegan actor Ruby Rose serves up Impossible Burgers to her friends. Actor Nina Dobrev, former star of “The Vampire Diaries,” said that Rose was inspiring her to ditch animal products. “I hadn’t truly, truly considered veganism until I met you,” Dobrev said to Rose last year. “But hanging out with you and eating these Impossible burgers definitely inspired me to consider it more seriously because [vegan food] is so yummy and delicious.”
