Popular food delivery service Just Eat has announced the addition of several new restaurants offering “healthy food”, the Irish Times reports. The changes have been made in a response to the “dramatic increase” in demand for vegan food.
In 2017, the company revealed that consumers were “increasingly looking for more diverse, healthy, gluten free and plant based vegan options”.
In fact, Just Eat saw a massive 987% increase in demand for vegetarian options last year, and consequently named veganism the “biggest food trend of the coming year”. Now, the brand has added nine new restaurants from healthy food chain Chopped, as well as six from Camile Thai locations, who offer “fresh and healthy Thai food”.
Just Eat are currently the only food delivery app holding a 5-star review average, having been downloaded more than 6.5 million times. They are just one of the big names identifying and catering for the surging vegan market. Tesco recently launched an entire vegan range across 600 stores in the UK. Dominos and Pizza Hut both recently added vegan cheese to their menus, signifying a true shift in mainstream buying and eating habits.
Just Eat managing director Amanda Roche Kelly said: “As the leading marketplace for online food ordering and delivery, we continuously monitor the market for new trends to ensure we are offering fresh and exciting flavours to our diverse customer base”.
She added, “it was so interesting to review our trends index for 2017 and see such a spike in demand for more variety, including vegan options”.
“This is a trend that is set to continue”.
