Perhaps it’s still too early to put up the Christmas tree, but it’s never too early to start thinking about what festive food will be gracing our plates this holiday season. Bidfood, one of the largest food wholesalers in the UK, has unveiled its 2018 Christmas range, which includes its first festive selection of vegan dishes.
Laura Mason, Bidfood’s campaign manager, announced on the company’s website that Bidfood is “really excited” for the upcoming range. Crediting the reported 3.5 million vegans in the UK as inspiration for the range, Bidfood “worked hard to expand the variety of foods we offer to meet the demand we’ve seen from our customers for more than just the traditional Christmas fare.”
As well as launching plant-based buffet snacks and mains, Bidfood is bringing joy to the Christmas table with a collection of vegan desserts. Mason explained, “With the significant jump in the UK vegan population, we are keen to ensure we have strong choices for this area of the market, particularly when it comes to desserts. Christmas is all about everyone being able to come together and enjoy, without the need for restrictions and limitations.”
Among the diverse range of new sweet treats is a Belgian Chocolate and Raspberry Torte, Lemon Swirl Cheesecake, and Honeybuns Mincemeat Crumble Citrus Traybake, along with a range of dairy-free ice creams, with flavors ranging from Swedish Glace to Blueberry.
“While the holiday season will always be about indulgence and fun festive flavours, there’s more of a call than ever for products that reflect wider market trends,” Mason commented. “From world flavour influences, to vegan and free-from options, this year’s collection is about catering for everyone.”
Bidfood is not the only retailer showcasing an impressive vegan Christmas range. The UK’s largest supermarket chain Tesco recently offered a sneak peak of its upcoming festive food range which will include the popular vegan cauliflower Wellington and a butternut squash entrée.
Likewise, UK supermarket chain ASDA is launching a new range of plant-based treats this Christmas, including a vegan cheese board, Chestnut Roast, Vegan Chocolate Caramel Pots, and a Vegan Pâté.
