Adelaide-based vegetarian diner and soda shop Two-Bit Villains has launched weekly vegan pub nights, Broadsheets Adelaide reports.
Vegan fish made from a blend of tofu and jackfruit with a side of chips, chicken and eggplant schnitzel, and a selection of burgers are just some of the veganized pub classics available from the Aussie diner. Head chef and co-owner Liam Hughes says he wants to fill the void of “decent vegan pub food” in the otherwise meat-heavy Adelaide restaurant scene.
“As a vegetarian restaurant, we are still very closely intertwined with the vegan community in Adelaide and Australia,” Hughes told LIVEKINDLY. “Everything on our standard daily menu has a completely vegan option, so it seemed completely natural when to launch this special weekly menu to just make it 100% vegan.”
The popular establishment will also serve vegan snacks like nachos, popcorn “chicken,” Buffalo tofu, and fried mac and cheese bites. Drinks from local breweries will also be available and, according to Hughes, the restaurant may rotate plant-based specials weekly.
“The Fish is uncanny,” Hughes said. “We worked for quite sometime to perfect a vegan filet that still felt and tasted fishy. The fish really crumbles like the real thing and pairs perfectly with our housemade vegan Tartare sauce.”
Founded in June 2011 by co-owners Liam and Leigh Hughes, Two-Bit Villains prides itself on catering not only to meat-free diners but vegan and gluten-free guests as well. On the regular menu, customers will find a wide variety of award-winning veggie burgers, shareable appetizers, fries, and a few salads. Botanical handcrafted sodas created by Liam, who serves as the diner’s head chef, are another menu staple. The extensive soda menu serves a wide range of flavors such as sasparilla, blueberry, cream soda, and “Tummy Tonic,” a blend of ginger, citrus, mint, and star anise.
The restaurant’s new pub nights are due to take place every Thursday, starting at 5:30.
