Asda has teased its upcoming vegan-friendly Christmas range.
The UK’s second-largest supermarket chain will offer vegan sides including no pork cocktail sausages and cranberry and apple stuffing balls.
A vegan Wellington will also be available. Traditional Wellingtons consist of a fillet steak coated in pâté (a liver-based paste) which is wrapped in parma ham and puff pastry. Asda’s vegan version features a blend of chickpeas, cranberries, and apricots mixed with festive spices and a sweet cranberry sauce, packed into a golden puff pastry.
For dessert, the supermarket chain will launch a vegan gold and chocolate swirl, which, according to Asda, “nobody will be able to resist this Christmas.” The sweet ring-shaped treat features caramel sauce and chocolate mousse with an outer Belgian chocolate shell decorated with gold lustre.
Asda’s Christmas offerings are centered around opulence, inclusivity, and novelty this year, the company explains on its website. It believes its upcoming launches will bring people together and get “the party started and get your guests talking.”
Linsey Taylor, Senior Director of New Product Development, said in a statement, “for me, this is the most exciting time of the year, unveiling the fabulous food and drink combinations we’ve been working hard on for the festive season.”
She continued, “there is something special about families coming together to celebrate the big day and it’s our job to ensure there is delicious food for everyone to enjoy, and plenty of options for all involved.”
Taylor added that Asda created this year’s range based on customer feedback.
Mark Richmond, Asda’s Head Development Chef, said that the company has included “the much-loved Christmas ingredients and flavors of the festive season that our customers know and love” while making its “new inspirational products to bring you a range of taste sensations for everyone to enjoy.”
Vegan Christmas Food
Tesco, the UK’s biggest supermarket chain, has also announced its upcoming Christmas range. Its vegan options include Wicked Kitchen’s festive vegan turkey wraps, Sticky Chilli Cauliflower, and Thai Inspired Butternut, Coconut & Lemongrass Rolls.
Pigs in duvets — vegan sausages kept cozy in dairy-free pasty — will also be available. For mains, Tesco will launch a vegan Butternut Squash, Mushroom, and Chestnut Wreath, a Stuffed Butternut, and a Sweet Potato & Red Cabbage Christmas Log.
Vegan Chocolate Torte and dairy-free ice cream will be available for dessert.
