Family-owned brand Amy’s Kitchen, which specializes in mostly-organic frozen meals, has launched a vegan spinach ravioli bowl. The popular brand made the announcement via Twitter earlier this week.
According to the website, the new frozen vegan ravioli consists of organic wheat pasta folded over a center of housemade vegan ricotta cheese and organic spinach that is then covered in marinara sauce.
The vegan ricotta is made from a base of tofu, which Amy’s creates in-house using American-grown, non-GMO soybeans, along with coconut milk, nutritional yeast, and savory seasonings. In addition to being vegan, Amy’s latest ravioli bowls are also kosher.
Founded in 1987, Amy’s Kitchen is a California-based, independently-owned family brand that has been championing organic food since before the USDA had set guidelines in place. The brand had built such a strong reputation in the natural foods market that when the USDA began developing guidelines in 1990, it consulted Amy’s Kitchen.
All meals are made in-house and it was also the first brand to market cans with BPA-free lining. Though Amy’s Kitchen is not a vegan brand, it regularly caters to the growing demand for plant-based food. Some of the most recent additions to its lineup of plant-based products include vegan pizza rolls and margherita pizza swirls.
In 2015, the well-established frozen food brand launched the nation’s first organic vegetarian and vegan drive thru, Amy’s Drive Thru. The restaurant specializes in serving healthier versions of American fast-food classics like burgers and fries. The second location is set to open in Corte Madera, California, and the brand plans to open at least five more throughout the state by the end of the year. If California is a success, Amy’s Kitchen hopes to open additional drive thrus in other states.
Those interested in trying Amy’s Kitchen’s new vegan ravioli bowl can search for nearby retailers that stock it through the website.
