13,000 People Waitlisted for This Body Positive Vegan Skincare

There are a number of vegan skincare products to choose from on the market, with new brands making cleansers and face masks out of everything from spinach to mushrooms. However, vegan skincare brand Megababe‘s natural products are unique in a different way; they’re all about taking “the Ouch and the Ugh out of being a woman,” according to the brand’s website.

Megababe makes non-toxic, cruelty-free products designed to stop thigh chafing and breast and armpit sweat. Its products are so popular, at one point, the brand’s natural deodorant Rosy Pits had a 13,000-person waitlist.

But that almost didn’t happen — there was a point when the concept of Megababe was seen by many as just a pipedream, according to founder Katie Sturino. After pitching the idea for the anti-chafe stick to friends and family before launching in 2017, she was met with doubt and criticism, with some telling her “[this is] just a you problem,” she told Elle magazine.

She persevered, and Megababe’s Thigh Rescue sold out in the first week. “You have that little piece of doubt that’s like: What if they’re right? What if I’m making a product for myself, and now we’ve got thousands of units just sitting?” Sturino recalled. “When we did launch, it was a big exhale. We sold out and we made a product that people loved instantly.”

Thigh Rescue – a balmy formula that allows thighs to rub together smoothly – was followed by the launch of Bust Dust, a talc-free natural powder to help soak up breast sweat. “Formulated with bacteria-fighting lavender and soothing chamomile, think of it as your daily armor to protect against sweat seeping through your top,” notes the brand’s website.

Also among the brand’s natural, problem-solving products are its Megafresh Wipes – biodegradable, PH-balanced wipes to keep you feeling fresh down there on busy, sweaty days – and Rosy Pits, an invisible, paraben-free, baking soda-free natural deodorant.

“What I am trying to do is stop people from feeling shame,” explained Sturino. “We are trying to solve problems people don’t feel comfortable talking about yet and that big, giant, massive beauty brands have ignored.”

Megababe’s products are available to purchase online from the brand’s website, on Amazon, in J.Crew, or from beauty retailer Ulta.
