The Vegan Gastronomy Culinary Academy Launches World’s First Plant-Based Pizza School in Spain

Chefs looking to hone their skills as a pizzaiolo are now able to enroll in the world’s first-ever vegan pizza school. The new class is being offered by the Vegan Gastronomy Culinary Academy, a plant-based cooking school located in Palma, Spain.

“This is the next chapter in our growing success of mainstreaming vegan food,” Stephanie Prather, Founder of Vegan Gastronomy Culinary Academy, said in a statement. “We are taking our expertise in flavor and textures, and merging it together with low cost and healthier approaches to enabling vegan pizza to be a tasty mainstream alternative in a changing food landscape.”

Called the Vegan Pizza School, students have the option of attending classes in-person at the academy on Mallorca Island or online using an interactive system. Initial classes will introduce attendees to a comprehensive history of pizza-making techniques, from the traditional Neapolitan method, which is so valued that it has its own trade association, to the NYC-style of pizza popularized by Italian immigrants.

The course will also address the casserole-like Chicago deep dish pizza, “artisanal” California pizza, and adaptations from all across the world that have been tailored to the taste preferences of those living in the region. Seasoned chefs and pizzaiolos, home cooks, and hospitality chefs are welcome to sign up for classes.

“We found that our ability to make vegan dishes as good as or better than conventional dishes was a sign we needed to launch our Vegan Pizza School”, said Jessica McKenzie, General Manager of Vegan Gastronomy. “We have all both trained and have been professionally trained in all the components of what makes a great pizza and so we are bringing those altogether to teach the world.”

The Vegan Gastronomy Academy was founded by Prather in 2013 in a bid to educate the public on how plant-based food is not only easy and inexpensive to make, but also profitable. It now has offices in Australia,  LA, Orange County, and in Spain.

Vegan Pizza School is expected to begin classes in March 2019 and is open for enrollment now. For more information, visit the website.
