In a recent Facebook video, vegan musician Will.i.am has revealed that his vegan diet was a “big mistake.” At least, that’s what it seems at first.
In a video making the rounds on Facebook titled “Will.i.am: Vegan was a big mistake!,” the Black Eyed Peas frontman dishes out his personal words of wisdom while getting a haircut. “As a matter of fact, you gotta make mistakes to get great,” he said. “You gotta like, love your mistakes kinda.”
After discussing the lessons he’s learned from working in the music industry for over two decades, Will.i.am moves onto the topic of veganism. At first, it seems that the vegan celebrity has gone back on his values. It turns out, the singer actually just doesn’t “miss steaks.”
He says, “I’m vegan, and I don’t miss steaks,” he laughs. “You know what I’m saying? I don’t miss steaks! I don’t miss steaks, I don’t miss chicken, I don’t miss fish. I’m vegan.”
He concludes, “Back to mistakes, go out there and make mistakes. Exactly.”
Will.i.am’s Vegan Journey
Will.i.am began his plant-based journey last year in a bid to take back control of his health. “After we finished filming [The Voice] in December I went home, I became vegan, I biked to work, and I lost 15 lb,” he said in January.
Since then, the rapper has become a huge advocate for all aspects of a vegan lifestyle. He has spoken out about the ethics of killing animals for food and questioned corruption in the food industry. In March, he said in an Instagram video, “For many years I would go to sleep and wake up tired, and that’s ’cause my body was processing god knows what type of crazy wicked sh*t that was approved.” He added, “There’s a force, a dark force, out there that is doing a very good job of keeping us all sick.”
The rapper has also appeared on a number of UK TV programmes, spreading the message about the benefits of his new lifestyle. In September, he even convinced self-proclaimed tofu-haters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, the presenters of “This Morning,” to love the humble soybean. After eating his tofu-packed black-eyed pea taco recipe, Willoughby said, “Actually that is really nice…lovely.”
