Vegan actor Nathalie Emmanuel, who attained celebrity status through her role as Missandei in “Game of Thrones,” is searching for a vegan personal trainer. The star posted a “trainer wanted” ad on Twitter and Instagram, specifically reaching out to trainers with knowledge of vegan sports nutrition and diet.
“London based PT’s knowledgeable in vegan sports nutrition…make yourselves known,” Emmanuel tweeted yesterday morning. She reposted the tweet on Instagram with the caption, “Hit me up #VGang,” followed by a selection of fitness emojis. Finding a personal trainer through the ether of social media may be a bit unorthodox, but it can also be difficult to find a plant-based professional in this field.
Many individual and corporate trainers are ingrained in the “gym culture” that survives off chicken breast, broccoli, and brown rice, supplemented with whey-based protein shakes and bars. The paleo and ketogenic diets are strong in this community, and trainers may often attempt to push their butter-laden bullet-proof coffee concoctions on their clients. However, vegan or otherwise, most trainers only obtain a basic level of nutrition education through their certification. F
or example, the National Association of Sports Medicine (NASM), which is one of most recognized certifications in the US, only requires its trainers to understand the basic concept of calories and macronutrients. Trainers are experts in movement and athletic performance. While nutrition is complementary to their work, it requires significantly more knowledge than the common certification.
Emmanuel leads a very active lifestyle, from her role on the action-packed television series to her everyday life. In addition to being a runner, she’s also an ambassador for Speedo. Her athletic endeavors demand proper fuel, and she’s looking for a professional to help her optimize her fitness to continue doing what she loves.
One can get a sense of Emmunael’s hobbies and interests with a quick scroll through her Instagram. The page is packed with natural selfies, workout photos, glamorous photo shoots, and vegan food. Further, she recently posted a photo of herself wearing a “I Am Forever Against Animal Testing” t-shirt to promote her partnership with The Body Shop’s Cruelty-Free International campaign to end animal testing on a global scale.
A few people have responded to Emmanuel’s ad, but it has not been confirmed whether she has connected with any potential trainers.
