Vegan power couple, Ultraman Rich Roll and self-taught chef Julie Piatt, have launched their second plant-based cookbook, “The Plantpower Way: Italia.” The new book features 125 plant-based recipes inspired by their group retreats to Italy.
This latest collection follows the couple’s first cookbook release in 2015, “The Plantpower Way,” which quickly became a bestseller. Whereas the first book focused on clean, vegan dishes from breakfast to dessert, “The Plantpower Way: Italia” is specific to authentic Italian recipes, taking the reader on a deep dive into the country’s culture through food.
Roll supported Piatt as she created and tested all 125 recipes, veganizing Italian comfort classics such as pizza, creamy pastas, and even cheese. The goal is to promote plant-based eating and to ensure readers that they do not have to give up their familiar favorites to eat healthfully and ethically.
Flipping through the mouthwatering recipes, it may be difficult to choose where to start. Begin with mastering a few of the sauces and cheeses, like the Cashew-Almond Mozzarella and the Beet Tomato Sauce. Then, try one of the pizza or pasta dishes, such as the Classic Family-Style Pizza or Truffle Cashew Fettuccine Alfredo. Round out the meal with a vegetable side of Escarole Salad, and finish with a stunning dessert (or two), like the Gluten-Free Tiramisu or Lavender Cheesecake.
In addition to the recipes, the book is full of stunning glossy photographs of food, the Italian countryside, and experiences from the couple’s wellness retreats. It essentially doubles as a cookbook and a conversation-sparking coffee table book.
Beyond their book launches, Roll and Piatt also created the Plant Power Meal Planner, an app that provides personalized vegan recipes and meal plans. The service matches up one’s preferences with specific, plant-based nutrition guidelines and offers daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner inspiration.
Roll was recently dubbed “the world’s fittest vegan” by Men’s Health at an impressive 51-years-old. He is also the host of the weekly Rich Roll Podcast. Further, he is the best selling author of Finding Ultra, and just released a second, updated edition. His wife, Julie Piatt (also known as SriMati) is an artist, musician, healer, plant-based chef, and yoga teacher.
“The Plantpower Way: Italia” will be available at major bookstores and online on April 24, though pre-orders are also available.
