Toni Braxton is the latest star to enter the world of beauty. Her new vegan skincare line, Nude Sugar, is available exclusively at Ulta Beauty.
The Grammy Award-winning singer is widely reported as one of the world’s best-selling R&B artists. Now, she has turned her hand to serums, lotions, and mists with the new brand, which she says has been in the making for two years.
Nude Sugar is designed specifically for people of color, Braxton told WWD, and for those suffering from dryness and hyperpigmentation. Her own struggles with finding the right products inspired the new range.
“It hasn’t been easy just finding that right potion or the right lotion or the right cream for your skin to make it luminous and supple. That can make it plump, makes it feel good,” she said.
The range, available now, includes a Sugar Plum Elixir Restore & Renew Body Serum, which features a moisturizing blend of humectants and preps your skin for heavy creams.
There’s also the Refined Sugar Body Mist, scented with orange blossom and Peruvian lime. And The Creém, a long-lasting moisturizer, is enriched with shea butter, sweet almond oil, and super-hydrator squalane.
“My skin as an African American tends to be a little drier,” Braxton added. “Since I’m getting up there, just going outside in the sun, and all the years of the things that I’ve done to my body being in the entertainment business. For me, it was having hyperpigmentation or sometimes you get light spots. I wanted to do something that represented me. I wanted something that I knew really worked.”
The celebrity vegan beauty boom
Celebs are flocking to the beauty industry, and many are launching brands that are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free.
Tennis champion Naomi Osaka recently announced the launch of KINLÒ, a vegan skincare brand, which, like Braxton’s new offering, is specifically for people of color. And pop singer Ariana Grande recently revealed her new beauty brand, r.e.m. beauty, is on the way.
In the hair care industry, Jennifer Aniston just launched LolaVie, and Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness just launched JVN Hair. Both brands are vegan and cruelty-free.
