Beyond Meat is bringing $1.60 vegan burgers to retailers nationwide just in time for cookout season. The plant-based meat company just launched the Cookout Classic—a value pack of ten meatless patties—at Walmart, Target, and more.
The limited-edition vegan burgers will be hitting U.S. store shelves beginning the week of June 22. According to Beyond Meat, the Cookout Classic value pack was made to “inspire a shift to plant-based meat at barbecues and summer gatherings.”
Ethan Brown, CEO and founder of Beyond Meat said in a statement: “This forward-looking pricing represents an important milestone along our journey to make Beyond Meat more accessible to all consumers.”
The “bleeding,” meat-free burger patties are made with simple, plant-based ingredients, including pea protein, rice protein, and mung bean protein. The burgers are made without GMOs, soy, or gluten. The Beyond Burger is also far more sustainable than a traditional beef patty. According to the company, the plant-based patty generates 90 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions, uses 99 percent less water, and requires 93 percent less land than a quarter-pounder. It also contains no cholesterol and less saturated fat.
Beyond Meat Expands Its Reach
The Cookout Classic value pack is one of several initiatives that increase consumer access to the company’s plant-based meats.
To better inform consumers on the benefits of eating plant-based meat, the company launched the Why Go Beyond content series. It is a compilation of personal stories from celebrity ambassadors about going plant-based. These include celebs like Kevin Hart and Snoop Dogg.
Beyond Meat says it hopes the videos will inspire “people to see that the positive choices they make, no matter how small, can have a great impact on personal health and the health of our planet.“
This summer, Beyond Meat will also be introducing a new direct-to-consumer site. Earlier this month, the company’s rival, Impossible Foods, launched its own direct-to-consumer online store.
Customers can now purchase Impossible Foods’ vegan burger meat online. It is available in four different options. The company will ship the orders to any of the 48 contiguous U.S. states for free.
