PETA Launches 2017 Great Vegan Bake-Off

The first episode of the eagerly awaited Channel 4 Great British Bake Off (GBBO) aired last week, and it provided Britain with a sufficient amount of concerns over Mel and Sue’s replacements. Despite the fact that Sandi Toksvig is a much loved British comedian, the combination of her and a very reserved Noel Fielding has certainly made the British public skeptical over how successful this new show will be.

For vegan viewers, the disappointments are even greater. Even though you know full well you can knock up a cake shaped like a champagne bucket and without the eggs and dairy, reaching for the bourbons just seems a little bit wrong when it’s animal product filled victoria sandwich that’s given you the munchies.

Vegans might even turn to their own kitchen to angrily whip up a quick chocolate torte just to prove how well it can be done.

But don’t let the dairy get you down, because if you do have a gift with a whisk, or a secret flair for frangipane and you love vegan baking, or even just a challenge, then there’s a competition especially for you.

For the past several years, PETA have been running their very own bake-off at the same time as GBBO. In fitting with PETA’s ethos, this one is The Great Vegan Bake-Off!

All you need to do is send in a picture or video of your baked goodies, along with a recipe, and you could be the 2017 winner of GVBO!

Last year’s winner was Maisie Stedman, founder of ObviouslyVegan.com who won the judges over with her Lemon Meringue Show Stopper cake and you can see why, it’s pretty delicious looking.

GVBO is a great way to show just what you can do with vegan ingredients, show off your talents in the kitchen and a good excuse to make some really tasty cake!
