The holiday season is officially here. Most of us have gotten gift shopping at least partially out of the way, we’re starting to consider which vegan holiday roast will be at the center of our table, decorations are up, and it’s likely that there are one or two Christmas parties pending.
CBD, short for cannabidiol, the non-psychoactive cannabinoid derived from marijuana or hemp and the latest wellness trend to be embraced by the mainstream, has been showing up everywhere as of lately. Its proponents list a wide variety of health benefits, from combatting stress, anxiety, and insomnia to reducing the number of seizures experienced by people with epilepsy. CBD is available in a wide variety of forms like tinctures and oils, body creams, bath fizzes, chocolates, and gelatin-free gummies.
CBD-infused cocktails have also been cropping up on the drinks menu of various bars across the nation.
“It gives you a different kind of ‘buzz’ for a relaxed state of mind,” Zsolt “George” Csonka, owner-bartender at Adriaen Block, a CBD bar in Astoria, Queens, told Food and Wine. “After two drinks, you should find yourself feeling calm and mellow.”
They’re also incredibly easy to make at home – all that’s needed is CBD oil and your recipe of choice.
This vegan CBD-infused cocktail comes from Maxwell Reis of Gracias Madre, a plant-based Mexican restaurant located in West Hollywood. This chilled drink combines tequila with fresh-pressed lime juice, agave, a touch of pink salt, fresh mint leaves, and CBD oil. Aquafaba, the brine from a can of chickpeas, stands in for traditional egg whites.
